Teen Empowerment Scholarship Pageant

Donation protected
We are accepting 30 teen girls 13 - 18 to compete for a scholarship.  This is a no frills academic pageant -- not a beauty pageant. We would like to provide phones and lap tops to help empower the girls to succeed.  We are 'the change'..."if you change the young women you will change the community".  Women carry the word.  NBC TODAY SHOW

The funds being raised will go to inner-city girls from local public middle and high schools. This pageant will empower them to become young community leaders and prevent them from being victims of violence. The teens will feed the homeless, visit Children's Hospital to read to sick kids, and write an essay on "What it will take to leave the planet better than you found it'.

Peralta Colleges' Foundation, Romeo Garcia, Director, and the "Rising Scholars' Voices Program" (RSVP), which supports students at the Laney College, Merritt College, College of Alameda and Berkeley City College will invite the top 5 winners  to enroll in the RSVP two year program designed to prepare students for a career or a 4 year university to ensure success and receive a $3,000 stipend. The event will be A Soulful Mimosa Brunch held Saturday, July 19, 2014. 10:30am - 2 pm, at the Historical Preservation Park, a Victorian Neighborhood in the heart of Downtown Oakland, next to the museum, 1233 Preservation Park Way, Oakland, CA. More information about our gorgeous location here: www.preservationpark.com. Take a tour of the location here: http://tour.circlepix.com/946411

The purpose of the pageant is to: empower and encourage the future of girls, prevent them from becoming victims of violence, to become college educated, promote community leadership, and to be competitive in the today's job market. The distinguished Key Note Speaker will be Dr. Elnora Webb, President of Laney College. The event's MC's are Nikki Thomas, KBLX-FM Radio and Oakland's own Celebrity Chef Nikki Shaw wife of Oakland's own NBA Champion and Coach Brian Shaw of the Denver NUGGETS. Teens will be required to attend 10 classes on college prep, social life skills/etiquette, internet training, banking, and international/local affairs. The winners will be selected by a panel of 9 professional judges and sponsors on their communication skills and the content of their character.

It takes a village to raise a child... but it takes caring coupled with financing to educate them to make a change.
