Rebecca Hayden's battle with ALS

Donation protected
Rebecca Hayden is the wife and the mother of three children here in Fort Mill, SC.  Rebecca, at the age of 40, was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a disease in which the neurons in the brain stop sending signals to your body.  All your voluntary muscles die (except your eyes and bladder), eventually leading to complete paralysis.  As your diaphragm stops working, you can't breathe and die fully aware of what is happening.

Even though she can't communicate, her mind and her analytical ability are just as sharp as ever.

Before she became sick she was an active resident in her Fort Mill neighborhood, creating a competitive swim program and dance troupe for the girls and boys in her subdivision earning her the honor of Hometown Hero in 2013.

Her contagious smile, her sense of humor, her infectious laugh, her love for her family/friends is what makes her so special to many.

Rebecca found out that on Medicare she will never qualify for in-home help because she has a chronic illness. It's only for those recovering from an illness. Her only option is to have her friends and family brush her teeth, help her to the bathroom, bathe her and take care of her every need. There isn't anything she can do for herself.

And then there are the medical/home care bills.

What a horrible situation.
