Emily King needs your help on her journey torwards oral eating. Emily has been tube fed since June 1st 2012 when she was 6 months old. At that time she also had an invasive surgery to correct her sever reflux called a Nissen. Emilys experience with food and drink has never been enjoyable due to constant vomiting that began at birth. She has been getting local therapy since her surgery with no improvement on oral intake. Emily has developed a sever aversion to food and often just the presentation of it can be to much for her to handle. On our search for answers for Emily we traveled to Cincinnati OH, Childrens Hospital were we met with their feeding team experts. After putting her on a blended diet through her gtube she stopped vomiting, but her aversion was still sever with no oral intake increasing. They preformed an Endoscopy, which showed no food allergies or reflux inflamation. Emily became a mystery.
The Cinci. OH feeding team referred us to KKI (Kennedy Krieger Institute) in Baltimore MD, for help getting her to eat orally. We have been to KKI once in Nov. 2013, and now are preparing for a week stay where Emily will be getting intense behavorial, speech, and feeding therapy. We also are currently on a waiting list there for an 8 week invasive feeding/behavorial program. As Emilys mother, and like most all mothers, I would do anything in my power to give her the best life possible. Please help me help Emily to live a happy healthy life without relieing on a medical device for her nutrition. All donations will go towards Emilys medical bills and travel expenses.
