In Hospital Waiting for Liver Transplant

Donation protected
Hayden William VanZandt Was born on 10/17/2012 at a robust 8lbs 6ozs. He seemed to be a healthy child except for what the doctor's considered to be breastmilk jaundice and was discharged home after a normal hospital stay. For the next 2 months, little Hayden cried inconsolably and became more and more yellow. At his 2 month appointment, he was transferred to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. After a liver biopsy, the doctors discovered Hayden was born without bile ducts and bile was backing up throughout his body, a rare uncurable liver disorder called bilary atresia. The only treatment option is a Kasai procedure, where the liver is connected to the small intenstine to allow for bile drainage.  The Kasai operation was a success and the doctor's were optimistic that it would buy little Hayden a few years at least before he would need a liver transplant. Hayden was discharged from Children's 1 month later. All was well for the next 13 months as Hayden grew and reached all of his milestones happy and smiling. However as a result of his liver cirrhosis, Hayden developed bleeding varices, and last thursday his varcies ruptured causing Hayden to go limp and vomit blood. He was life-flighted to Children's hospital in Pittsburgh, where he received blood transfusions and underwent surgery to stop the bleeding. The surgeons discovered 2 holes in Hayden's veins connected to his liver and temporarily patched him up. Now, at 17 months old, little Hayden is on the waiting list for a liver transplant. The father and grandpa are undergoing testing, in the hopes of being a match for a living liver donation. Hayden was staying at the pediatric intensive care unit but has been moved to room 833 since he is stable. Their wages have been reduced to nothing since Hayden has been hospitalized and will continue to be throughout Hayden's surgery.  Any donations and all prayers to help Hayden's family at this time would be greatly appreciated.
