Kidney Transplant ~ A Sisters Gift

Donation protected
Update 6/19/2014:  We have a date for transplant!  August 18th! We will check Emily into Childrens Medical Center on Sunday August 17th and I will take Megan over to check in at UT Southwestern early a.m. on the 18th. Megan is now working with AMLI and they have been so wonderful allowing her the time off for transplant before having any vacation time. We are all excited and nervous but keep faith that the future will bring bright tomorrow's and happiness!

Megans love for her little sister is a bond greater than you can imagine and one that has led her on a mission to help save her life. The journey began when Emily only 11 then, suddenly became sick less than two years ago. After bloodwork showed raised creatine levels and then a kidney biopsy, we found out Emily had FSGS. With in 5 short months Emily was in kidney failure. Megan 22 then, was away at a college internship at Disney World & came home to be by Emily's side. She completed her senior year in college on line so she could sit with Emily each day to keep her company. Emily began dialysis in March of 2013 but we knew a life saving kidney transplant was what she needed next. When we began testing for transplant to get on the wait list ,Megan never gave it a second thought wanting to be Emily's donor. Megan was so excited when she found out she was in fact a match.  We are now in the last steps before scheduling surgery. Megan had her life & career on hold staying with Emily daily to help care for her and with college and medical expenses mounting its a financial worry that shadows over the greater emotional worries we face. As a mother you never think you will face something like this where both your little girls will go into surgery, although both are more brave than I can begin to write about. I can't begin to express how much I love them both and couldn't be more proud of their bond as sisters. The Blessing of any help would be appreciated more than words can  express.
