Friends and family!
Those of you closest to me know it has been longtime personal and professional dream to volunteer in underserved, economically underdeveloped areas. I'm very excited to say the opportunity for my first trip has arrived!
This May I'm journeying with a couple of my colleagues from my Physician Assistant program to Chaclacayo, Peru to spend a week working in an assisted living home for children called Hogar San Francisco de AsÃs. The home is run by a neonatal intensivist and pediatrician Dr. Anthony Lazzarra, an American doctor who moved to Peru to work pro-bono for the remainder of his career after becoming disillusioned with the failures of our health care system.
The home houses up to 52 children from infancy to 18 years old who have chronic and/or debilitating health conditions that require diligent and costly health care that their families can not provide.
I'll be working to care for the kids from when they wake up until they go to sleep, as well as helping in the coordination of medical or surgical interventions they require from nearby health facilities.
I'm responsible for the expense of getting down there as well as any and all personal expenses. I need your help!
You'll be helping me fulfill one of my lifelong dreams, as well as directly contributing to delivering aid to sick children.
ANY amount you can extend to me helps. Any extra funds that are received will go towards a monetary donation to the home. In return you'll receive my eternal gratitude and respect, good karma, and pictures of me with cute Peruvian kids.
