My dads medical, hospice and funeral
July 13, 2020 change mine, and my sister life forever. I received a called that my father ( Kenneth Steen) was in extreme critical condition, was being transferred to another hospital and a neurosurgeon would be calling me, in the next 5 minutes. I had to make a choice, and fast he had a stroke due to blunt force trauma, which resulting in bleeding of the brain. I had two choices , let him pass or try to save his life with a surgery and the risks. I choose surgery- no one knew the extent of damage till surgery took place. For the past 5 months, we have been praying for a miracle. Due to a stage 4 bed sore on his lower back/tail bone which is constantly infected, as well as his trache , and a constant on going battle with pneumonia, his body can’t handle it anymore. We have had to make the difficult decision on putting our father on hospice to live the remainder of his life.
This is an extremely tough time for everyone due to Covid, and my father wasn’t working at the time of incident due to his extreme high risk to COVID , he has no life insurance or anything of any sort. He has VA insurance, and they haven’t really covered much of anything. We have to pay for his cremation and other things, nothing is covered. My sister and I would also like to be able to say our goodbyes to him as well, as we haven’t seen each other in over 10 years due to distance . We are asking for any amount of help, during this extremely difficult timefor all, and extremely emotionally difficult time for myself and my sister , our family and even my mom.
My father serviced in our military, and was in the Navy. He served on the Nimitz for a year. At the time it was the longest deployment on the Nimitz. Kenny is and was such an amazing, loving and caring man. It breaks my heart that we have to plan this and do these things , while he’s still here with us. It just breaks mine and my sisters heart, as we aren’t ready to say goodbye.
