Welcome to HARAMBEE!!!!

In Swahili, Harambee means "All pull together." Harambee is the practice of hope, possibility and compassion — basically, all the things that happen when we all come together. Through Harambee, Togetherness is Not just a Word - but a Collective Experience, ALL TOGETHER!

Harambee is a multicultural experience that the Children enjoy while building their Competency for Diversity and familiarity with Language Immersions. We Share Songs In Kiswahili (“Nah KU Penda”, or "I Love You") and Espanol (“La Paz Comienza Comigo" or "Peace Begins With Me"). Along with traditional songs of inspiration to promote cognitive and social-emotional development, such as the “ABC’s”, “The Wheels On The Bus”, “Friends, Friends, 123”, "Sharing is Caring", and "Be a Buddy, Not a Bully". Original songs are introduced to the children that promote inclusiveness and togetherness. The children of HARAMBEE come from diverse backgrounds and over the years have formed life long friendships that are genuine, loving, kind, and unconditional.

I have been very fortunate over the past 25 years to provide The Harambee Experience for tens of thousands of Children and Families at Children of Early Childhood Centers, Birthday Parties, Summer Camps, Community Centers, Churches, Museums, Parks and Recreational Centers, Juvenile Rehabilitation Centers, Colleges, and Universities throughout the DMV Area and across the Country. On each occasion, we create a circle of unity wherein parents, scholars, teachers, and participants engage in activity and play exercises that celebrate learning through movement and song. Our vision is to build the capacity of trust, empathy, mindfulness, and compassion within ALL the children of Harambee, with a goal to inspire the children to become PEACEMAKERS, PEACEKEEPERS, PEACE ACTIVISTS, and Ultimately PEACE AMBASSADORS.

Due to the pandemic, all convening locations for Harambee have been closed for the foreseeable future. Thus, I have transitioned my performance presentation of The Harambee Experience to regular, online virtual broadcasts, and now I am working to develop an accompanying early childhood curriculum to support youth and families in practicing the values of Harambee at home and in the world.

With Your donations, we will be scheduling virtual summer camps, HARAMBEE family circles for anti-racist parenting, community events, and private sessions for the HARAMBEE Family, and curriculum materials to promote literacy, compassionate communication, and social-emotional development. In addition, I will be able to continue to offer the Harambee experience during these challenging times, and upon the reopening, with both online broadcasts, workshops, and public events free of charge for all to FullJoy!

HELP us to continue to build the capacity of trust, empathy, kindness, mindfulness, and balance within the hearts of the HARAMBEE Community for years to come. Give Thanks for your support!

Asante SANA!

Until then, stay in Your Light!

Be Well,

Baba Ras D
