On October 31st of 2013, I found out that I have Stage 2 Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tongue. November 7th I had my first surgery to remove the mass on my tongue, as well as 28 lymph nodes from the five sections on the right side of my neck.
The surgery went as planned, all nodes were cancer free and we had negative margins from the tumor. On November 12th, I was declared cancer free.
On January 2nd, I noticed an inflamed mass at the back of my tongue; by January 17th it was not getting any better. I called my dr and went in to be seen.
I was then told the worst news of my life for the second time. The cancer had come back and with a vengeance. On January 22nd I was told I needed another surgery and radiation therapy. The next day, I underwent surgery for the second time, this time a much larger portion of my tongue was removed.
To date, my husband Terry and I have been out of work for going on 5 months and we are struggling to make ends meet.
I began my radiation treatment on March 10th and am currently on day 10 of radiation therapy. This has been a huge financial burden for my husband, myself, and our two girls, Ryleigh and Raegan.
We are at a critical point in my care plan and since I've been denied long term disability through my job, we are working with no income. I have insurance premiums, a car note and insurance, and of course every day bills that are piling up, some of which my care will depend on.
I am a very private person and this is very difficult for me to put myself out there like this. If there is anything at all that you can donate, even $1, my family and myself will be forever grateful. Thank you for your kindness and compassion. God Bless You. The Gish Family.
