Funding is needed for a field trip for ninety (90) 4th-6th grade children who attend Rochester City School District Schools #22 and #25 to attend RIT's ImagineRIT Innovation and Creativity Festival on Saturday, May 3, 2014.    Funds will be used to secure busing, chaperones, and lunch for the day.  For more information about this great festival, go to the ImagineRIT website.  Any extra funds raised will be used as seed money for future Field Trips and Futures experiences.  Please help us make this experience possible for the kids!

CREATING THE DREAM FOR HIGHER EDUCATION:
BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY

Do your children expect to go to college?  Why is that?  Chances are they have been hearing since they were young that college is a path they can choose.  They have learned from you and others in their lives what college is like and the opportunities that a college education can provide.  They have a vocabulary and framework to ask questions and link their academic progress to future success.

But how do you dream a dream if you don't have any idea what the dream could be?  How do you ask questions about something that you know nothing about, something that you don't even know is a possibility for you?  This is the challenge faced by many students in the Rochester City School District.

The mission of Field Trips and Futures is to break the cycle of poverty by exposing RSCD students grades 4-6 to local colleges, and open their eyes to the possibilities that are available to them.  The goal is to reach students at the critical age when goals need to be formed and action plans put into place to provide a framework and context for all of their future decision-making and school planning.  We aim to begin the process of breaking the cycle of poverty, hopelessness, and dependence on government programs by demonstrating to students at a young age that they can empower themselves.

If one, JUST ONE, of these 90 children is put on a course of higher education and is successful in reaching his/her goal versus future dependence on government programs, taxpayers could be saved as much as +$38,000 per year.  And most importantly, the poverty cycle will be broken for future generations.  With only $2,500, we can take the first step with these children, and get them excited about a new future.

PLEASE help us begin this exciting program by helping us put these kids on a bus to a hopeful future.  Thank you!
