Fund West High School's Production of "Monster School Goes West" at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

The West High School Theatre Department has earned the privilege of attending the 2014 the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland and money is the only thing standing in our way! We need your help!

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest performance arts festival in the world. It takes place each year in August, this year from August 1 "“ 25. Each year the thousands of productions take place during the month in over 200 different venues throughout the city of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) makes this opportunity possible. AHSTF is an international forum where outstanding high school performers can showcase their talent and gain valuable experience. It runs in conjunction with the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival and top high school programs are nominated and must be selected to participate. West High was the first school from the state of Alaska to attend the Fringe through AHSTF in 2007 and has again been selected to attend the Fringe festival in 2014.

West will perform its self-written production of "Monster School Goes West" at the Fringe. This children's play is one in a series of productions written entirely, or in part, by West High staff and students. The Monster School shows all focus around the History Class of Ms. Bagatha, the kooky teacher who teaches history by bringing grade school aged monsters through great historical events with the help of The Time Tunnel. The monster kids (all portrayed by student animated puppets) are ably assisted by characters they meet along the way and Mr. Splunk, the school custodian and time tunnel engineer. As they learn about history, they also learn other life lessons, with the strongest being an anti-bullying message.

To participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience, West High Theatre must raise the funds necessary to attend the program, including airfare, room and board, plus the cost of the performance. In total, the cost is over $80,000. Our cast of students has utilized a variety of fundraising methods, including a Raffle, collaborating with theatre partners throughout Anchorage, hosting special events, and requesting funding from the private organizations. We are getting closer to our goal, but we are not giving up!!

Every dollar counts and we can not do this without you. Please consider giving any amount and supporting us as we work to meet our goal.

Our gracious thanks.
