Hi!

My name is Bella, and I am a Chihuahua.

I use to live in Cleveland, Ohio with my Human Mommy and four other Chihuahuas, but my Human passed away two weeks ago.

Our family has been split up, but I got to go with home with Brittany and Naylie. Brittany is my Human mommy’s daughter and Naylie is my Chihuahua daughter!! I love them very much and am happy to travel to North Carolina. I cried when we first pulled away and tried to look out the window! We stopped at Aunty Pams house on the way to Carolina. Brittany and Aunty Pam said a prayer and asked God to wrap me in white light and provide peace and comfort on my trip. It was my first long road trip and I did great!

But when we got here, I met Brittany’s boyfriend. He wanted to be friends, but I was scared. When Brittany went to work, he took me out of the cage and tried to pick me up and put me on my back… I bit him! I was scared and he hurt me! He left and I was stuck on the floor for six hours before Brittany came home and found me!

Once she found me, I knew I was going to be okay, even though I was not able to move my back legs anymore. She fell to the floor and scooped me up quickly. With tears in her eyes she put me on the bed. I heard her say that it was past normal vets hours.  She called her friend Dr. Crystal  and she came over to the house right away. I instantly liked crystal and knew she was here to help me. That guy showed up too… and he was crying. Everyone was trying to take care of me.

Dr. Crystal was able tell Brittany that my ribs and lower end were hurt.

The first Vet I saw at West Stanly Animal Clinic was nice. I liked him and let him poke at me, until he got to my Lumbar Spine! That hurt. He did some test and diagnosed me with Paralysis with a 50% chance of recovery and without surgery, quality of life was in question. He also told Brittany if I didn’t poo in two days from then, I would have to be put down. He gave me some medicine and we left.

Because of some extra help from someone who wouldn’t tell me their name… Brittany was able to get me to Dr. Amy Fauber at CARE Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency. She is a veteran at small animal surgery and is one of fewer than a dozen veterinarians who are dual-boarded ACVS and ACVIM (Neuro) Diplomates (she was the first woman to obtain these dual credentials!). She is a surgeon and neurologist. She discovered I have IVDD in my L-3/L-4, both hip sockets are out of place and I have fractured ribs, leaving me with paralysis and pain.

Brittany keeps doing some funny form of healing to me with her Alpha Stim and Reiki, but something must be helping because Dr. Fauber called Brittany and told her I have regain motor function in my hind legs. I am not able to walk, but there is hope for me!

Tomorrow Dr. Fauber is meeting with her partner and they will need to perform surgery on me, but we need help paying. I know I have plenty of years still in me, and after at least five litters of puppies, Brittany is excited to show me a really good life that is all about me and my happiness! I can’t wait to heal and be outside in the sun while my owner does some weird meditation thing….

I almost forgot to mention! On the way to Animal Emergency, Brittany made a wrong turn. She asked a group of people for directions. The people came up to the care and I liked them. I let them pet my head a little. Brittany was crying and a woman named Zyna Delsa Matoorah, a senior chaplain began to pray! She prayed loud and confidently and the words made me stare (Brittany was crying)! She prayed twice, once for Me and once for Brittany and Me for losing our human Mommy.  She was nice, I liked her!
