ACFYA Mission Trip to Uganda

My name is Chidinma Chukwuma. I am currently a first year medical student with a yearning to serve and a growing passion for missions. As a Nigerian American I have always found myself involved in organizations that cater toward impacting Africa through education, health and bringing awareness to disparity. Though I enjoy being involved in these organizations, I have always felt the urge to step up, step out and do more.
Yes mission work has crossed my mind, but I've always put it off, thinking to myself that I could wait until I was securely in my career or gave the excuse that I didn't have the money. It wasn't until after I crossed paths with an amazing young lady at a Dallas Leadership Conference that the desire to go on missions became reignited. The young lady (Jessica Chibueze) spoke of her experience on her first mission trip to Uganda. The trip impacted her life so much that she looks forward to going back to Uganda every year. This 20 year old, took it upon herself to start her own sucessful initiative, having a goal of bathing and clothing as many children as possible every time she goes. This drive is what challenged me to make a move. Yes, I love working with my organizations, but I also feel God leading me to step out of my comfort zone and join in on taking a hands on approach in making an impact and serving the needs of others.
The organization that held the Leadership conference mentioned beforehand is called the African Christian Fellowship USA, which is composed of South, East, West, and Midwest regions. Each region travels on mission trips several times a year. Due to time constraints with my school scedule, I hope/plan to join the East Region on their mission trip to Uganda. ACF Missions, Inc. is a mission agency of the African Christian Fellowship (ACF), East "¨Region "“ an organization consisting of African Christians in the Diaspora and Supporters. For over 10 years, ACF Missions have been reaching out to the poor and underserved people in Africa. Each year, members of the organization travel into the interior villages of Africa, where poverty and diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other tropical sicknesses are prevalent. Some of these villages are populated by child-headed homes, where child labor, prostitution, hunger and illiteracy are rampant. You can visit the website at: http://www.acfmissions.org
The cost for one person to go to Uganda with the Eastern Region of African Christian Fellowship is $3,000. This $3,000 covers EVERYTHING for a two-week trip:
-Round Trip flight to Uganda
-All room and board for the duration of the trip
-All food
-Ground transportation for the whole trip
Additionally, this $3,000 helps our mission's team to purchase medicine for the Ugandan citizens that will be treated during our medical mission program and helps us to hire Ugandan doctors and nurses that will attend to the Ugandan people. It also helps us to buy the ingredients needed to cook meals for the hundreds of citizens after they've seen the doctors and have been prescribed medication.
When the cost is broken down, this turns out to be a very reasonable amount; however, $3,000 is still a daunting amount for an average medical student to fundraise. I am writing today to ask if you would help me with my goal of raising these funds and allow me the honor of partaking in this mission trip to Uganda.
