Help Scott Attend CoOPERAtive!

I graduated from Westminster Choir College with a bachelor of music in 2011. Since then, I have sung in numerous summer, educational and young artist training programs including Opera New Jersey, Bel Canto at Caramoor and Palm Beach Opera. While attending these programs I learned a variety of lessons and gained numerous performing opportunities. These include: Master classes with acclaimed professionals in the opera field, singing small roles in the main stage operas and signing in educational outreach programs.

Throughout these programs, particularly at Palm Beach Opera, I realized that my education in music and singing was not complete. It was after Palm Beach last winter when I decided that going back to graduate school was the best thing I could do for my career.

Since Palm Beach Opera, I have become much more active in teaching students. I currently have a small studio of private voice students and also run warm-ups and sing as a bass section leader at Trinity Church. I am also currently active with The Princeton Singers, a professional chamber choir located in Princeton, NJ.

Just recently, I have been accepted into Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ for graduate school starting in the fall. I'm very excited to start school again because of my growing passion for voice pedagogy, the study of voice teaching. Westminster has one of the best pedagogy programs in the country!

So why CoOPERAtive?

CoOPERAtive is a three-week summer opera-training program for promising young singers in opera. The program runs from June 29th to July 19th. During the program, I'll receive private instruction in operatic singing technique, style, and interpretation by a variety of very well known and respected professionals in the field. In addition, I'll attend daily yoga, movement and acting classes as well as sing in master classes and perform in weekly concerts.

The beauty of the program is that I can use everything I learn from this program to teach as well. Teaching is not all about learning pedagogical technique and studying anatomy and physiology; it's also about personal and professional experience. CoOPERAtive will provide both of those aspects of singing for me and also be great preparation for graduate school.

In the end, I want my professional career to have a great balance of performing and teaching experience. For me, singing is not just a way to sing on stage in front of a lot of people, it is also a public service. I want to help people and I know that I can do that through my teaching as well.

Now here's where YOU come in: Unfortunately, CoOPERAtive is not free and while I have received a partial scholarship from the program I currently don't have the ability to pay for the remaining total. This is where your help would be so deeply appreciated. Don't have a lot of money to give? No problem! EVERY dollar helps!

Thank you for visiting! It means so much to me that you took the time to read about me. Even if you can't donate, please take some time to post a message on the message board; I'd love to hear from you!
