Sonny Hudson needs our help right now!!!

Paul Butterfield once incredulously remarked: "Hudson? He's a whole 'nother hit".

Sonny Hudson IS "the real deal"; a native son of New York City, born and raised in the Bronx. Musician extraordinaire, Bluesman, Classical Harmonicist and powerful vocalist, Sonny has been a musical force to be reckoned with. But only a few short weeks ago, Sonny noticed that he just couldn't catch his breath while walking up a slight hill in his neighborhood. He went to have an angiogram at Mount Sinai, one of the country's best hospitals and during the required blood tests they discovered his kidneys were barely functioning. He was immediately admitted, a week later he received his first kidney dialysis, and a few days after that, Sonny would finally have that angiogram. The news was not good. Hudson would need immediate quintuple bypass surgery. His cardiologist said had he not come in when he did he would not have lasted another six months! After a long weekend of no sleep and self reflection, last minute calls and texts, and friends and family dropping in to visit, Sonny had his emergency heart surgery. Hudson, thankfully made it out OK and is currently recovering. He is also receiving ongoing kidney dialysis and on the kidney transplant list. Sonny has always been there for his friends and colleagues and anyone else that has needed his help. Now Sonny needs all of us to be there for him! Sonny will need help with food, rent, and the all the other necessities of life when he gets out of the hospital. New York City is a harsh mistress.
Please contribute as much as you possibly can!!

In the Winter of 1970, Sonny traveled from NYC to Chicago when he was only 15 years old to meet his idol Muddy Waters. Muddy let him crash at his place. Sonny had envisioned himself playing harp for the master but that was not to be. He went on to San Francisco and New Orleans, eventually coming back to New York and spending the next 25 years honing his craft in a wide range of musical styles on diatonic and chromatic harmonicas, and vocals. Hudson studied with Robert Bonfiglio and Cham-Ber Huang for classical chromatic harmonica, and Big Walter "Shakey" Horton for blues harp and voice. A love of jazz led him to study vocalese with originator Eddie Jefferson. Sonny also plays sax, flute, cajun accordion, congas, and timbales. Hudson worked as a harmonica tech for Huang and Cham-Ber Huang helping build harmonicas for Norton Buffalo, Stevie Wonder, and Steve Miller among others.

Sonny Hudson has shared the stage with Michael Bloomfield, Paul Butterfield, Jaco Pastorius, Bob Marley, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Popa Chubby, Moogy Klingman, Hiram Bullock, Big Eric, Gil Parris, and Terrance Simien to name a few. Hudson has given lessons in contemporary harmonica studies to numerous known and unknown musicians.
