School Teacher vs. Termites

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Lauren. I'm a teacher in Cabrera, Dominican Republic. I'm originally from Maine but I met, fell in love with and married my husband here. We have two dogs, two cats, and a little pink house. I work for a Canadian non-profit called The Esperanza Project teaching English to under privileged children in the area. I absolutely love my life here but we are suffering from one major, unrelenting problem...termites!

Our Little pink house is literally falling down around us and while my husband and I both work fulltime jobs (him being a veterinary assistant who works 6 days a week, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm), we still only earn just enough money to live off. Here's where I need your help! To replace all the wood in our house with cement blocks would cost around 100,000 pesos or roughly US$2,500. (Update: Unforseen problems with the foundation have raised our goal to $3500, as we spent a large chunk of our donations in the beginning and are running out while still needing doors, windows and part of the roof!)

Right now we're forced to spray our house almost every week, and still the termites manage to make progress! Not to mention how unpleasant (and unhealthy) it is to live in a seemingly endless cloud of insecticide! Please help us fix our house before it all comes crumbling down.

Thank you for your consideration,

Lauren and Miguelo Medina
