"Sopa" Ministry Support

Donation protected

This is my daughter Dorothy, This year she will have her first chance to serve others in poverty. Read this article to learn about "Sopa" and what kind of ministry happens as a result of your generosity.
"Sopa" is the Brazilian word for 'soup" and the name of a really cool ministry in Poa, Sao Paulo, that is performed by my church there.
More than 50 meals are prepared every week and delivered to the homeless that are not able to seek shelter or get any help at all by members of my church. The people who work to prepare are people who do not have much themselves, but they do all they can for others.

Last year my mom went to Poá for and helped take the food after church . She told me about a mom that was wandering the streets with her 6 year old son who had never spoken because he lived through so many bad things. I asked her if I could come and help kids like him. Mom told me that there was a lot of work that needed to be done because  the kitchen where meals are prepared, needs to be repainted and updated. She said that painting was a good job for me. Delivering the food needed to be done by adults, but when I am old enough someday I can do that too.  We put together a budget so that people can see what my money will be used for. My trip with Mom will last about 4 weeks from July 17th to August 22nd.

I need to cover the cost of everything by May 30th if possible so that supplies for the work can be ordered.

My airfare is $1500.00 through Delta
My Passport is $80.00 plus a $25.00 application fee
My Brazilain Visa will be about $160.00 with special postage costs
I need $1,000.00 for housing and food for the 4 weeks I am there.
I need $500.00 to stock the kitchen with supplies like bottled water, rice, beans, delivery containers and disposable silverware.
I also need to buy new shelves that are made for restaruants they will be about $250.00
The last $1500.00 will be for paint, painting supplies and to replace some dangerous flooring in the room next to the kitchen. Any extra money raised will go to the program to buy more supplies. I hope for $2000.00 there.

The cooks need more room and space to store over the cooking range.

This space is too tiny! The microwave needs to be moved, and installed in a place where it is not blocking the stove so workers can work with ease.

Mom and Sr. Albertino, the contractor who helped her and the other ministers with painting the church. Building supplies in Brazil are expensive, but  Mr. Albertino has been helping for a reduced price. He helped last year for 5 weeks and is a real blessing. I know that even though I am only 13 I can help make a difference for the people there! I have a work promise that I made with mom and Pastor Carlos to work 32 hours a week painting and to do 8 hours a week of community service and also to help with chores everyday so that I am always busy! I want to work hard so that every dollar people donate goes far! I am also studying Portuguese at home so that I can talk to people and make friends with kids in the neighborhood. This is the people I will be working with:

Thank you for your time and consideration
