Help Save a Family

Please help us to support Terry and her family as she struggles through an unexpected and devastating health crisis.  Terry is a good hearted loving wife and mother of 2 great kids. She and her husband reside in Media PA.  She works a full-time job and in her spare time cares for her husband of 30 years who is also in need of support.  Terry has an elderly father who lives near her home town of Lansdale. Terry regularly travels to spend time with her dad and lends her expertise to ensure that her father is getting the best care. Her father is quite a character too!  Terry’s work over the past many years has been that of a Director of Marketing & Business Development Manager for Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facilities on the Main Line of Philadelphia.  If you’ve been a part of the health and wellness community, you definitely know Terry. She stands out to anyone who meets her and has developed many strong and valuable professional and personal relationships in her field.

Terry and her husband have lived in Media for 30 years and love their neighborhood, community and the friendships they’ve built through local and school activities and their children’s joint interests. Terry also volunteered and served on the Youth Aid Panel for Delaware County with a focus on helping troubled youth. She brought a very caring and measured perspective to the panel.

If you’ve had the good fortune to know Terry, she is one of a kind. She is a very kind, supportive and encouraging mother, family member and friend. She is an amazingly strong and capable woman who has used humor to bring her through life’s ups and downs and has entertained family and friends her entire life with her unique sense of humor and self-deprecation. Everyone who knows Terry knows that she will make you laugh and will bring the unexpected to any situation.

We met Terry when we all chose to go to Shippensburg State College, now Shippensburg University in the dear old Cumberland Valley.  She was the president of our local sorority Delta Rho. We all have many great stories about our time together at Ship and often re-live them over and over again.  Terry was looking forward to attend Delta Rho’s 50th anniversary celebration the weekend of April 20th in Shippensburg but will be unable due to this unforeseen health crisis.

She is a very independent woman who is proud and would never ask for help from anyone. That’s why we kindly ask for your support via this effort.

Late on the night of March 13th, Terry called an ambulance for herself due to severe pain in her abdomen. She didn’t contact her children that night because she didn’t want to worry them. By the next morning, she was being wheeled into emergency surgery and contacted her children letting them know that she was headed into surgery and that she’s fine and would see them when she wakes up. Terry had emergency exploratory abdominal surgery to correct a twisted bowel. She spent 2 weeks in the intensive care unit at the local hospital and battled many complications while trying to recover. When it became apparent that she needed different and better care, she was transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital (HUP) in Philadelphia.  Penn is a world class health system and has the expertise she needed.  We are grateful that she is there, as we believe they saved her life. Unfortunately after 7 abdominal surgeries Terry remains in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Penn.

As you might imagine this health crisis has impacted her life and her family’s life in many unforeseen and disruptive ways.  In addition to the immense physical and emotional toll, this health crisis has created significant financial strain. Due to multiple surgeries and almost 4 weeks in the ICU, she has been unable to return to work. Prior to this health crisis and by consequence, Terry provides the sole source of household income.  As you might expect the monthly household bills keep rolling in without regard for her health issues.

Terry and her family are looking forward to moving into the recovery phase of this health crisis but are also facing many unknowns about the future.

We’d like to kindly ask for your help to support our dear friend Terry and her family at this time of need. Your kindness and financial support is genuinely needed and will be greatly appreciated. The family will be grateful for any and all contributions. No amount is too small. We ask that you spread the word to anyone who knows Terry or who has been touched by her situation and would like to help.
