Matty G's Kidney Transplant

My brother Matty Gavigan was diagnosed with Kidney Disease last month and is in need of a transplant. At age 31, Matt thought he was a "healthy", active guy living the dream in Maui- surfing, fishing and hiking. He got a very bad headache to the point he went to the emergency room. At the emergency room is blood pressure was so high, they put him in the ICU and started running tests. He was very lucky he made it there and did not have a heart attack or stroke. After a week in the hospital, Matt's life got turned upside down when the doctors told him he had a disease called, IGA Nephropathy which lead him to stage 4 kidney failure.
Since the beginning of February it has been a whirlwind for Matt and his family. Learning about what the disease is, how something could be going on in your body without knowing and what the road ahead means.
Matt flew to Boston to visit Brigham & Women's Hospital, where he met with the entire transplant team. They discussed his levels, donors for a kidney transplant, a new renal diet, the transplant itself and lastly, life after a transplant.
Thankfully, Matt has family that is willing to get tested to see if they are a match for a live donor. We are praying for a life donor since the waitlist for a deceased donor is 5 years. While we wait, Matt is continuing to be monitored by the Hawaiian Nephrologist and the Brigham team. He is prepared for when he needs dialysis.
So many friends and family have been asking how to help and support him. We will need to raise money for medical expenses not covered by the insurance company (dialysis, medication, hospital expense) and also travel expense.
