On average 22 veterans with PTSD committ suicide a day. This is a stunning number, an UNACCEPTABLE number. Our service men and women sacrifice much to protect the freedoms many of us take for granted. This includes and is not limited to their mental well being. It is in my opinion not only the government's job to protect and provide for these brave men and women, but also our job as a community to help in any way possible. Words are not enough! We need to mobilize and become active in our efforts.
My name is Al Santamaria and my goal is to raise money for a wonderful charity named Train a Dog Save a Warrior, http://www.tadsaw.org.
"The Mission of TADSAW (Train a Dog Save a Warrior) is to provide for the training of a Medical Alert Service dog, as designated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, for any wounded warrior, active duty or veteran, surviving with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma, (MST), and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), in order to restore and improve the warrior's quality of life with a canine 'Battle Buddy', at no charge to the warrior."
In reality this organization does far more than its intended mission statement. They provide hope for veterans through saving and training helpless and wonderful dogs. The Western Mass chapter is run by a wonderful and admirable woman named Sherrie King. She works hard to make this organization work and has devoted much of her time and energy for the cuase. I would love to give back to our veterans and help this amazing woman continue the great work she does day in and day out without any recognition. My hope is that not only my friends and family donate to this cause but the generous souls who read this page who wish to help.
Feel free to donate any amount that you are comfortable with. I am however, enticing donors by providing you a chance to win an a 16 gig ipad min retina. As a way to honor the 22 veterans who commit suicide daily, a ticket will cost $22. This will get you chance to win a beautiful and new ipad mini.
For those generous donors who donate $66, they will get 5 tickets for the drawing. For the men and women who are veterans, active service warriors, and civil service members I will proudly double the amount of tickets you receive for your donation. The Drawing will be on October 3rd 2014 and will be handled by my gym; Crossfit Ironwill in Ludlow Ma.
I hope we can achieve this goal together. Let's give back to our heroes. Let us say thank you with more than just words. Let us come together to help heal. Let's do this!!
