Hi,

I am Karim Harb , a Palestinian nursing student from G@za City, which was devastated by the war and with it my home, my memories, my work, my dreams, my goals, and literally everything.

My house, which I and my family lost on October 26, 2023, is not just a house that contains furniture, but rather contains many valuable and priceless things. My house contained warmth, safety, comfort, tranquility, and my private place in which I always used to find my comfort. It contained... My things that I have kept for many years because they have memories that are very close to my heart and are even part of it. I had things since my childhood. I cared very much about my things and I did not expect that I would lose everything. All my memories and possessions became ashes in seconds.

I missed my home and my room that no longer existed. I missed every day I spent in this warm house.

Oh, I forgot that I am a nurse!

My dream was to graduate from nursing school and become a nurse to serve humanity, help patients, and be an angel of mercy for them, but what mercy? What humanity? What peace?

I only see death, destruction, displacement, and everything terrible!

My university was destroyed, the hospital where I was receiving my training period was destroyed, and my papers and certificate were reduced to ashes before I even obtained them.

I dreamed of learning the German language at the German Institute and traveling to Germany after my graduation in order to study a master’s degree in intensive care nursing. All of these were dreams! Dreams have stopped and there is no longer any hope.

I volunteered in hospitals and medical points to provide health care to the wounded and injured without any financial compensation. The health system in the G@za Strip is in a very significant deterioration, due to the lack of availability of many of the necessary medical tools and equipment in medical institutions, and there is no infection control at all due to population density. Hugely high as a result of the large displacement process.

Fate has willed that I escape death several times, as death was very close to me, and I am still at risk at any moment due to the harsh conditions of war.

Many of my relatives, friends, and colleagues in the medical staff have died. I have lost the people closest to my heart. I feel like I am dreaming! I never imagined that one day I would part with them and that they would be among the pictures that only had two colors, black and white.

Losing close people so suddenly is a terrible thing.

Alhamdulillah

We are trying to survive in light of the very bad conditions. For more than 600 days, we have been suffering from a lack of food, high prices for products, most of the banks have stopped working, and a poor Internet network. In addition, the war is still continuing, and is getting worse day by day.

We are not just numbers..

I have the right to live in peace like other people, to achieve my dreams, and not to lose any more of my family.
