Posted 02/03/2015 As of my last infusion on January 08, 2015 my doctor has decidied to increase the frequency of my infusions from every 2 months to every 6 weeks to help with symptoms. Infusion are scheduled for every 6 weeks until May 2016. The plan as of now is to do a bone marrow auto-tranplant some time after May 2016.
As you may already know, I was diagnosised with a rare type of blood cancer on November 10th, 2013. This after several bone xrays, MRI's, blood tests, CT and PET scans, a bone marrow biopsy and 5 different doctor's evaluations. In November 2013 I recieved a proceedure called Plasmapheresis where my plasma was removed from my blood and plasma was recieved from a donor. This type of blood cancer called Waldenstroms Macroglobulinemia is diagnosed in 3 out of every million and typically in people 65-70 years of age. I have currently finished 5 chemotherapy treatments and have one more to go on March 21st 2014. Next, I will need to go through 2 years of targeted therapy infusions, a stem cell "extraction" (taking out my own healthier bone marrow for a possible future bone marrow transplant. Along with these 2 years of infusion will include labs and other testing. Each infusion is roughly $1300 out of of pocket alone and insurance covers the rest. My employer has been more than supportive with supplying me with additional sick time as I have used all of mine up on all the medical apointments and hospital stay. The bone marrow transplant will require another hospital stay and the infusions will be once every 2 months for 2 years.
