Chilean Adoptees Worldwide (CAW)

Donation protected
Chilean Adoptees Worldwide (CAW)  is a Non Profit Organisation (NGO) creating awareness for those who were adopted from Chile from the 1950s to 2000s. Today a lot of Chilean Adoptees are finding out that they were not “abandoned” by their mothers and/or families voluntarily as their documents state. There are cases in which they have been declared dead after birth and then been transferred to other countries and adopted by foreign families.

As a result, an extended criminal investigation was set up in February 2018. Official complaints are still coming in on a daily basis, and to date over 10,000 cases have been officially documented.

Parents in Chile are looking for their children, just as the adoptees are looking for their biological family.

Chilean Adoptees Worldwide was established following the discovery of these irregular adoptions in Chile.

On  27th November 2018 the Chilean Chamber  of Deputies in Valparaiso voted in favour of establishing a special Investigation Commission in order to help and support the Criminal Investigation taking place.

The adoptive children (who are adults today) have lived a life away from their country, their culture and many do not know their native language. Their mothers and families, in most cases, never wanted to be separated from their children.  Some were even told their children died during birth, only to find out years later they had been taken away and adopted abroad.

Through CAW, the adoptees are given a voice and can be supported with all the challenges they face in trying to find answers to the events that took away their basic human rights as a child.

How could your donation help us?

The volunteers of CAW  are based in Chile and across the world, and collectively attend any event possible in order to raise awareness about the Chilean adoptees. However, this is very costly with all the money coming from personal expenses.

The Chilean Adoption crisis has received international attention on TV, National Press and Social Media in recent months, resulting in a surge of activity for the group. Supporting the adoptees and the Investigation has become a 24/7 activity.

The volume and importance of questions being received is increasing daily, and none can be left unanswered. With the investigation now gathering pace, travelling to and from Santiago to meet the investigators is becoming more frequent, as is attending meetings in the Chilean Congress.

We have various important International events we need to attend in  forthcoming months to ensure that our NGO CAW is being seen and our voices heard. One of the upcoming events will be in Santiago de Chile on the  14 -15th on December, 2018. An international event concerning illegal adoptions and child trafficking arranged by the organisation  “Hijos y Madres del Silencio” with whom  we share a close connection. We will provide various materials  on our stand with informative flyers to spread knowledge about our organisation.!

Further on our agenda is our own  International European Chilean  Adoptees Conference which is going to be held in Amsterdam, 25 May 2019. Here we are also seeking sponsorship and financial support to ensure that all cost are  covered.

So this GoFundMe page has been established by volunteers to ensure that we are able to represent the Chilean Adoptees from around the world.

How do CAW  help:

- Providing up-to-date information  through our website and various social media accounts.

- Supporting  adoptees on a personal level (incl. on a language level) to find out if their adoption was irregular or not.

- Assisting  those adoptees interested, to see if they are entitled to have Chilean citizenship. If so, assisting them  to obtain their Chilean ID-documents and voting rights.

 - To help and guide adoptees on how to find their biological families in Chile. If someone wishes to be assisted we can provide  a personal guide to overcome the language barrier.

- Notify about the recent status with regards to the criminal investigation and irregular adoptions in Chile.
Should an adoptee want to have their documents added to the Criminal investigation team, CAW will have a  direct secure environment where documents can be uploaded and send directly to the criminal investigation team.

-CAW also plans to expand its network to have representatives in those countries where Chilean Adoptees are living today and arranging various events.
