Indian Himalayas Study Abroad

Dear Friends and Family,

I must take a moment here in the beginning to say that I am so grateful to my many friends and family who have supported me during my long (11 years) and winding (4 colleges in 3 states) journey through undergraduate school. Support has come in many forms -- encouraging words, study groups, advice both academic and otherwise, monetary support, hugs, well timed adult beverages, & distractions, among many others. I am thankful for every moment of this journey and every kindness I've been shown along the way.

As a person prone to adventure, you won't be surprised that my last hurrah along my academic path is something a little out of the ordinary. Through four long, demanding semesters at the University of Montana, I've packed in the credits and kept up my grades so that I can finish it all off with a 6 credit, 4 week study abroad in the Indian Himalayas.

This will be my classroom!

I will be studying environmental and social issues related to tourism, development, livelihoods, & sustainability in a remote region of India. Over the course of my undergraduate work, these are issues which I return to often and find myself gravitating toward for future work or studies. I will be traveling with an established study abroad group (this will be their 10th year bringing students to this region) which focuses heavily on academics as well as adventure. In addition, the students involved in this group will help bring outdoor gear, including safety equipment, to this remote area to facilitate ecotourism and other sustainable businesses.

Gear donations brought to India by the 2013 program participants

I'm honored to have been accepted into this program and I look forward to celebrating the end of my undergraduate career literally on top of the world.

So here is where I need your help, because of course, nothing in the world comes free. Although I have raised and saved most of the money I need for this trip, I still have a little farther to go. This fundraising effort is to get to that final goal. Funds raised will go toward the program fee (which includes tuition as well as all in country expenses) & travel expenses. My goal is to raise this money by April 15th, so please don't wait to help!

Please consider donating any amount, large or small, to help me get to the finish line.

With endless gratitude and love,

Nanda Devi Mountain, highest peak in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve where I will be living and studying.
