The Scandinavian School of Jersey City

The Scandinavian School of Jersey City is a small, private nursery school, located in the heart of downtown Jersey City. Ever since we opened our doors in 2010, we have been the "home away from home" that so many families in our community were looking for. Our families found us and have connected with us because of their search for a new, innovative, healthy and holistic approach to Early Childhood Education.
Through word of mouth, we have grown to 40 students in just three years, which has presented us with the opportunity to expand to one more location, right next door to our current school. We have had the opportunity to take an active part in planning out the new space, which includes 4 more classrooms and one atelier. We will also have an outdoor space which offers us something we do not currently have, but we are so excited to gain with this expansion.
As we embark on the next chapter we want to ensure all of our new families, children and parents, have the same experience our first 40 families have had. Our current space is as magical as it is because of the intense love and passion we have put into SSJC in the past 3.5 years. In order for us to offer the same experience going forward, the new space will need to be equipped with the same, and more, furniture, equipment and materials that we have now.
We would like to make sure the furniture we get for our new space is such that can be used for many different purposes. It needs to be "smart" furniture that can be moved, collapsed and stowed away easily, in addition to smart storage solutions across the school. We believe that if we have smart solutions, we will have many more opportunities to use our space in more than one way. Our common room, for example, can be a breakfast hall one minute, a theater the next, and an art gallery the next day.
Our atelier needs to have the same smart solutions, both for daily usage, but also for long term storage. In order for all of our students to be able to use the atelier, we need to be able to stow away material quickly, but at the same time, have enough visible storage that our students can not only see their own and their peers' work, but also see all of the various materials that they can use when inspired to work in the atelier. In addition, we are hoping to be able to purchase a large light table that can be used while other work is taking place in the atelier. Finally, with the many possibilities an outdoor space presents us with, we are hoping to transform this space to an outdoor classroom, a child centered garden as well as a natural oasis for all of our children to enjoy.
We need your help in ensuring our new space is as magical as our current space. We appreciate all your donations, big and small. Thank you for your help in making The Scandinavian School of Jersey City an enchanting environment for our children.
