MATTHEW'S MIRACLE

Thank you for helping our son Matthew.
He was born october 27th 2013, at Saint Joseph's Regional in Paterson,NJ. Matthew was born 4 weeks early due to a ruptured bowel found while still in his mommy's womb. Upon being born doctors found that he had suffered from type 4 jejunile atresia or type 4 apple peel syndrome. His intestines were in two seperate pieces. The upper part dialated and clogged and the lower barely developed and hanging on by 1 blood vessel. Matthew was rushed to surgery the night of his birth to correct this issue. He is a model of strength and courage. He seemed to be recovering well until week 5 when they discovered that his bowels still weren't functioning. Matthew was given a second surgery were they removed 4 to 6 cm of his intestines and fitted with two tubes to help the healing and feeding process. Matthew was sent home on December 20th, 2013 just days before his first christmas and several weeks before any doctor predicted. He has since been recovering well and began to lead a normal life of an infant. Matthew is a loving, sweet and adorable little boy.
Since he left the hospital his parents discovered that the hospital was out of network and would be responsible for the majority of the $730,000 medical bill. We are fighting to have the insurance company honor their share, as we were never informed of the issue even though matthew was pre-registered thru the insurance company to be cared for there.
Matthew's father , Kevin, is a Jersey City Fire fighter and his mother, Stefanie is an executive assistant for the NYC District Council of Carpenters. They are middle class people simply trying to make a good life for their son.
