HEAD STRONG & FULL OF LOVE, KICKING HYDROCEPHALUS IN THE BUTT!!

Dear visitors,

Thank you for taking time to visit this site. Since you are here, this is my daughter Lauren. She is as beautiful inside as she is on the outside.

Her strength and determination makes her so special as she continues to battle with multiple complications from hydrocephalus. The worst nightmare any parent can hear is that your baby  has what they termed, "an incurrable brain condition, when she was less than a month old.

This walk has changed our lives, one that tears at your heartstrings. It is long and often very difficult medically. Lauren has had only 3 good years with the medical condition, and most recently has spent most of the past 6 months in the hospital in pediatric intensive care unit or on the peds neurosurgery unit.

For those of you who do not know, hydrocephalus is a life threatening brain condition, that if left untreated can be fatal. We have walked this journey, and as it continues with over 100+ surgeries today! Lauren has been the "owner" of the cadillac of the shunts so many times, along with multiple infections, countless revisions, abdominal cysts which have burst, not to say the least; eye, heart and kidney issues that she has been dealt with courage. She is, and always has been a "very difficult" surgical case, so nothing is ever easy with her hospitalizations. The entire pediatric neurosurgery team and Peds Intensive Care Unit becomes your family and your home away from home many times for months because of the medical complications of the condition.

For the past 6 months, Lauren has been hospitalized with several complexed shunt issues. She is currently in the Peds Intensive Care Unit for the past 3 weeks.

The recovery process for children is difficult. It is a time of physical and emotional mending on the entire family. We have accepted to take each day as it comes and nothing more, for nothing is taken for granted. Ever since Lauren was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, we have believed that God had a plan to use Lauren and our family on this walk to make a difference.

Friends, family, co-workers, students, and strangers have asked how they can help. As many of you already know, Lauren has done so much fundraising over the years for various charities. It really means so much to her to be able to help raise dollars for others and organizations which she loves. This past 6 months have been very challenging medically. Someone recently asked her what her bucket list was. She replied, and said she had 4 wishes: 1) To feel better, 2) Find a cure for hydrocephalus, 3) Plan a trip, 4) Donate back to a charity.

My dream is that together we are able to fulfill Lauren's wish and provide her with a special time filled with awe, laughter, and love. Everytime we have planned a family vacation, we are suddenly halted by a hospitalization which is long lasting and traumatic for Lauren.

Many have told us what an inspiration she is to them, yet she has never felt this way. Lauren is a remarkable girl whose love, courage, faith, brightness, and generousity has touched countless people.

Today we laugh, cry and comfort each other to the hope of new beginnings of finding a cure. We encourage those who have reached out to us to join Lauren's cause. No donation is too small. We are grateful beyond words for the outpouting of love and support given thus far.

Much love,
Lauren's family
