Manny and I are going to work in a hospital in Haiti and are asking you for your support. We are two Nurse Practitioner students in our final year at Regis College. We are going to work with doctors and nurses in a small hospital, St. Therese, which is located in the mountainous region just north of Port Au Prince. We will be there for a week and leaving on April 6th.
We are volunteering there through the HERO project, which is affiliated with Partner's in Health and Regis College. After asking the St. Therese Nursing leaders how they could use our support, they asked for wound care. Manny, myself and 3 other Nurse Practitioners will spend a week at St. Therese and our tasks will be plenty: providing education to nursing staff on how to prevent and treat wounds, teaching simple tricks that can promote skin integrity, brainstorming on what Haitian foods and lifestyle
choices support wound healing, and working side by side with Haitian doctors in treating and managing patient care.
How will the money we raise be used? Bon kesyon! Our goal is 2000$, and we will be more than willingly raise more. In addition to helping support our travel and amenities in Haiti, the money we raise will go to stocking the wound care supplies at St. Therese Hospital. We hope to give the money you donate directly to Haitian nurses and doctors so they may purchase wound care supplies locally. Rather than buy supplies here in the US and bring them to St. Therese, we prefer to empower the Haitian nurses and doctors and let them make the decisions on where and how the money should be used, while also supporting the Haitian economy in their purchases.
