Our non-profit group was started 2 years ago with the purpose of making travel documentaries to be shared on social media; to help bridge the cultural divide with our African neighbors. In March of 2018 we set off on our first trip, and we crossed Morocco where we stayed for more than 3 months. After only one month of our trip we began to expand upon our original goals.
We all fell in love with the country and its people and quite spontaneously we were able to participate with communities around the country such as in Tafraoute (a small town situated in the central part of the High Atlas about 100 miles outside Marrakesh) and around Guelmim (a city in southern Morocco also described as the gateway to the desert) where we were invited to participate at local festivals to entertain the children with art workshops, musical jam-sessions and simple, fun games. The video featured on this Gofundme is from these festivals that we participated in.
Two years on, we are leaving again, and this time we are going to be travelling deeper into Africa, crossing into Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
Our plan is to arrive on the continent at the beginning of December, and staying until the end of April. Our goal is to stop at villages along the way, and to create an entertainment base for children of all ages where we will set up art and music work-shops and help build playgrounds. As basic as this sounds, having a small playground in a village can be a nice change for the local population, in our past experience most of the people that approached us were very supportive regarding our project and gave us a huge hand. It was a great way to experience the real Moroccan life-style.
With new partnerships developed over the past two years, we are planning our trip to coincide with specific events and venues; with a good number of orphanages, schools and community centres.
Our goal is to bring school and art material (colour pencils, crayons, exercise books, pens, etc.); Children's Games (inflatable castles, trampolines, slides); musical Instruments (Keyboards, guitars, drums, recorders). We are presently working to purchase these materials, mostly second hand, but it's proving more costly and difficult for us to accomplish this alone. By donating to our project, you will help us bring our "mobile playgrounds" to these communities, and once we complete our journey we plan to leave the materials in the hands of our partners on the continent to be used by the locals once we leave.
By the end of October, we will need to have all of the material necessary to be able to organise our departure and method of transportation. We presently have several trucks we can load, but depending on the quantity we may have to consider adding more trailers. From now until our departure we will be posting on our website and social media platforms the photos of the materials we will take with us and once in the country will produce various videos and articles so everyone can follow this cause on a weekly basis.
