Study Abroad in Barcelona, Spain
Hello! I am seeking support from my family and friends to help me make my plans to participate in The University of Chicago Barcelona Civ in Spanish study abroad program a reality.
The selection process began with a language placement test during my first year, where I scored high enough to enter college as a 2nd-year Spanish level student. During my second year, I completed the language course requirements and submitted an application to participate in the program. I was selected this Fall and will travel to various countries around the world during the Spring Quarter.
During the ten weeks I’ll spend abroad with the program, I’ll attend daily classes, study grammar, culture (history, art, literature, and local customs), phonetics and conversation. In the afternoon, I will participate in planned activities such as theater, dance and sports. In addition to my courses in Spanish, I will be completely immersed in Spanish, as the language commitment requires me to speak exclusively in the foreign language.
During the following fall of 2020, I will enter my senior year of college and will complete my business major requirements. My goal is to work in the international business arena — where my language skills will be integral. Currently, I have lined up a summer internship that will introduce me to the world of Impact Investing and International Business Relations. This is a new area of interest for me and my internship is one that will allow me to dig deeper into that field to determine if it’s a good fit.
The fees for the study abroad program are $5000 with an additional amount for airfare and are due by the first week of March. My parents have already paid the administrative fee and are working hard at making this trip possible for me. I am also working part-time (on my basketball off days — which are few) to save up for my spending money. I hesitated to ask them for more assistance as they already work very hard to provide me with the opportunity to attend a top 5 school in the nation. Although this is an amazing opportunity, this is extra and any assistance from my family and friends would be much appreciated. Would you be willing to contribute any amount to help me pay for the program fees? If you are, I’d be extremely grateful and sure to make the most of the experience abroad.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and for your consideration in supporting me. Please know that if you are not able to donate monetarily, that’s ok —- prayers are an even better investment!
Sincerely,
Brennan
