PLEASE READ! URGENT:
Several weeks ago, we took our 1 year old Lab/German Shepherd mix pup, Charlie, to our family Vet at Surfside Animal Hospital for what we thought was just a minor leg injury. Instead, we received devastating news, and then some... Charlie has been diagnosed with Advanced Hip Dysplasia in both hips. Our vet then referred us to a phenomenal Orthopedic specialist at Veterinary Specialty Hospital.
We adopted our 12-month-old fur baby, Charlie, only 4 months ago from Rancho Coastal Humane Society, who were unaware of Charlie's condition, but we have since informed them and they are helping share Charlie's story with the community.
On Tuesday, January 2, we met with an Orthopedic Surgeon to explore our options for Charlie. With that came more devastating news. Charlie not only requires a Total Hip Replacement in both hips, (this alone cost about $8,000 per hip) but he has Elbow Dysplasia in both front legs as well (He is only 12 months old!) This requires a Bilateral Arthroscopy Surgery to remove fragments of bone from both of his elbows, which costs close to $6,000 (this includes a CT Scan prior to surgery to see how advanced the dysplasia in his elbows are) This is the surgery that will need to take place prior to his hips, because the window of opportunity to perform surgery on his front legs is limited.

We spoke to our Pet Insurance Company, who kicked us down once more. They told us they most likely will NOT cover the cost of surgeries because it could be found as a "Pre-Existing Condition" due to the advanced stage of dysplasia, and possibly because of Charlie's genetics and the possiblity of over-breeding. We are completely devastated and heartbroken to say the least because we do not have the money to pay for these necessary surgeries and we love Charlie dearly. However, we are not giving up and we are still going to fight the insurance company.
The surgeon at Veterinary Speciality Hospital (who also gave us our second opinion), who has been doing this for over 20 years, confidently stated Charlie has an exceptionally good chance at a very successful outcome, especially due to his age and that he is otherwise young, strong, and healthy. He stated he was confident Charlie would be able to live a full and healthy life. Without the surgery he will have no chance, and that is simply not an acceptable option for Charlie.
These life-saving surgeries are urgent. Anything will help, and even if you are unable to donate, please share with friends and family. Charlie is a very important member of our family, and is our kids' best friend. Please Help us save our Charlie Boy!

#1: Cost of CT scan of both elbows and Anesthesia to be able to take the scans and to stay at the Hospital for the entire day

#2: Arthroscopy Surgery for both elbows (PRIORITY SURGERY)
