Christmas in Calais
Hi! I'm Rhia and I'm just a lady in London trying to do her bit to make the world a little better.
I'm raising money to buy much needed items for the refugee camp in Calais: tents, sleeping bags, warm blankets, tarpaulins as confirmed by Calaid and L'Auberge de Migrants. I have already raised funds for travel and accommodation so this money will purely be used for buying these items.
After several short trips to help in Calais I have decided to make a longer commitment. I will be travelling to Calais on 20th December and will be remaining there over the Xmas and New Year period until 3rd January to help out in any way I can. The weather is closing in, the media attention has died down and so has the number of volunteers but these people need our help.
Having visited the camp a few times now it is so overwhelming to see the conditions these people are living in and all in hope of a better life. These people fled from terrorism and are living in worse conditions than I could imagine. I have been deeply moved by these people and their stories and I wonder how well we would survive if it was happening to us.
Anything you can donate will not be gratefully appreciated by me but by the refugees you will be helping stay a little drier and a little warmer this winter.
