For Cicely

Sometimes, life isn't fair. My name is Dena and I am setting up this fundraiser to help a dear friend of mine. Cicely has been battling stage 4 breast cancer since 2009. Throughout the many trials that come along with having cancer, Cicely has completed a master's degree in math education and begun teaching middle school math. This fund is inspired by her recent Facebook post...

"so...applied for FMLA, as suggested by my (genuinely supportive) admin and mentor, so that if I have to miss days because of my cancer, it won't affect my job and the insurance that comes with it. jumped through all the hoops, leave specialist told me all should be well and wait for a letter. got a letter in the mail saying my leave was granted (YAY!) and also that since i am a new hire, i don't qualify for FMLA, so they are placing me on partial unpaid leave status, BACKDATED TO THE 28TH OF FEBRUARY. as a result, i no longer qualify for full-time health benefits, effective April 1st, right in the middle of my convalescence to have my ovaries removed. got that? i applied to FMLA to save my job (and insurance) and now i am losing my insurance. CAN I PLEASE FUCKING LIVE? LIKE, FOR REAL? CAN I LIVE???" 

 So, maybe we can't take cancer away, but can we all get together and take a small concern off of her? She has to have the surgery next week no matter what and considering her employment and insurance situation is unknown, this fund would help alleviate some of the financial hardship that is about to be incurred. CIcely is a fighter and deserves a chance to live without any more burdens other than dealing with cancer. Join me in giving her one less thing to worry about.
