Don Carson was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and so much more who unfortunately lost his battle on March 7th 2014. In January of 2014 he was diagnosed with Mantel Cell Lymphoma, a very rare form of cancer with only 1,500 known cases. MCL causes overexpression and mutation of certain genes which suppresses the immune system. At the point of discovery it had already taken over his chest, stomach and was attacking his intestines. Shortly after his first round of chemotherapy, he ended up being admitted into the hospital because he knew he didn't feel right. Nearly three weeks ago, and only hours after being told he was too weak to return home, his body went into Septic Shock due to an ulcer in his stomach that became a hole and got infected. He was rushed for emergency surgery on February 19th 2014 . After the surgery he was put on ventilation, had a tube draining liquid from his stomach out through his nose, and was heavily sedated. The following week he was slowly taken off of the sedation and ventilation. The tube that extended from his stomach through his nose was kept in. However, the hole in his stomach had begun to leak, and was being monitored. He was still critical, but in stable condition. In the evening on Monday, March 3rd 2014, he was able to be moved from the ICU to a cardiac care unit due to an irregular heartbeat. Early Tuesday morning he was rushed back into ICU due to unexplained bleeding, which was coming through his tube. He was entirely too weak for surgery. On Wednsday, it was confirmed that he had a clogged lung that had begun to collapse, and had contracted pneumonia. He was put back into sedation and on double ventilation. On Thursday his doctors attempted to perfom a minor scope surgery and moments before his blood pressure had dropped dramatically and they determined that he would not survive surgery. Friday morning, March 7th 2014, Rose Carson, his wife, spoke to the lung doctor and it was discovered he had also had a Pulminary Embolism, a blood clot in his lung, and there was nothing more they could do due to weakness from the many complications. She had to make the decision to remove him from life support at 1pm. Doctors informed Rose that he will still survive 3 hours, up til 3 days after the ventilation was removed. He didn't even last two hours. She is now all on her own for the first time in over 30 years and can not pay all of these hospital bills on her own.
