Two years ago Erin’s life changed when the doctor said “cancer.”
The doctor has now spoken new words.
Words that are finite.
“Get your affairs in order. Say your good-byes. Plan your funeral.”
We all make plans. We all have our timelines. Our future goals. Big plans for family trips. The number of years to save for the future, for college, for retirement and for our children’s futures.
Erin’s plans were highjacked two years ago and his financial planning for the future drained by medical bills.
Everyone in Erin’s life knows his life has been his family, his lacrosse family (which includes at least the entire state of Wisconsin and possibly beyond) and his work family and always, always, his sister Kristina and his mother Susan. It’s been the three of them since Erin was 11 and his own father died tragically in a military plane crash in the mountains of South America. Erin is maximizing his time with Zoe, Alayna, Arlo and Tami who has been so supportive.
There will come a point when Tami won’t be able to care for Erin. A time when maybe it won’t be the best thing for the kids witness every day. At that point, Erin plans to go stay with Kristina and Susan. Susan who is a nurse by vocation will be able to give Erin the care he will need. It will be important to give Zoe, Alayna and Arlo the opportunity to spend time with Erin while protecting them from being witness to the more difficult times.
All of this care, all of this travel will cost money. Alayna has just started her freshman year of college and sweet Zoe is only 12. So close to Erin’s age when he lost his own father and this, this is so very hard for him because he knows the heartbreak all three of his children will face. My point is this, Erin thought he would be working now. He thought he would be working these past two years not paying medical bills and more medical bills. We need to help secure Alayna and Zoe’s educational futures. We can give Erin the peace of mind that the funds are in place for his girls' college education. Unfortunately, Erin and Tami had to sell their home and liquidate all of their savings including the kids' college funds to pay his medical bills.
For all the times, Erin has been there for you. All the times he’s made you smile. All the times he’s made you laugh. All the time’s you’ve learned from him. All the times he’s helped make you a better person, a better player, the human being you are today. Please help Erin find peace and donate to Alayna and Zoe’s futures.
