Hailey's Benefit

Donation protected
My daughter, Hailey, was born early at 33 weeks and suffered a grade 3 bleed in her head which caused hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Children with hydrocephalus are unable to absorb the fluid in the brain so they need a device called a shunt to rid the body of the fluid. Without a shunt my daughter would not survive. My daughter had her first shunt placed when she was 2 weeks old. Hailey started having complications when she was about 2 years old and by the time she was four she had undergone 23 brain surgeries. After these 23 surgeries her doctor felt confident that he had come up with a solution that worked for her. Hailey was good for the next 5 years.

When Hailey was in third grade she started having severe headaches and ended up back in the hospital with several more surgeries by the time she reached the 5th grade. During this period the number of surgeries Hailey had reached was 60. Again, her Doctor felt he finally got her pressures under control and she was fine for the next 3 years.

Hailey is now 13 and in the 8th grade. She has been in the hospital on and off since November. In November she ended up having 6 more surgeries. Hailey was good for about 2 weeks and then ended up having some more major issues (severe headaches, blackouts). Hailey has had 12 more surgeries this go around, one of which caused a hemorrhage in her brain. After a 9 hour surgery, she finally came out but had to stay on the ventilator to prevent her from having violent seizures. They recently took her off of the ventilator and she is now having really bad short term memory loss is still super tired and hard to keep awake, and still proceding to have headaches. Her doctor is not sure how to fix the problem since everything he's tried has been unsuccessful so far. She has two shunts; one in her head and one in the lumbar of her back. She also has a drain in her head to drain the excess fluid that her shunt is unable to drain in order to keep her headaches under control. Without the drain Hailey would be in severe pain.

We have now been in the ICU for a month straight with no release date in site. I haven't been able to start working and my husband is taking care of everything at home. We definitely could use a little help with these new expenses. Any bit of help is extremely appreciated.
