Help Joey become part of our family!

From the outside looking in, Joey Diritio is your average teenager. He makes good grades, maintains a 3.5 GPA, is well liked, has a positive attitude and an all around joy to be around. Unfortunately Joey has lived a not so average life. In 2006 when he was just 9 years old, his mother was diagnosed with cancer. For over a year he had to watch his mothers health deteriorate while she was fighting the cancer and was being treated by home hospice until she passed in 2007. When she passed a huge void was left in his heart as he and his mother were very close. This left Joey to be raised by his father with the assistance of his grandmother. It wasn't easy, but they were making it and Joeys father gave him some much needed stability in his life. But just three short years later as Joey was getting up and getting ready for school, he found his father dead. He died of a heart attack. Joey was only 12 years old, with no parents. His 66 year old grandmother was now solely responsible for raising him. His grandmother has been the rock of the family, the constant, the we can make it work as long as we have family stability that was so needed in his life. Over the last couple years her health has been in decline, with heart issues and the latest, renal failure. She has to be treated with dialysis 3 times a week and is no longer capable of her own care, much less a teenage boys.Joey is our younger cousin. Recently he approached us and said that all he wants is to be part of a loving family and could he please come and live with us and be part of our family. Without hesitation we said yes and knew we could work all the details and specifics out. A little about our family. Marty is a Tech Sargent in the USAF. He is an instructor for an elite special force unit know as Combat Control Technicians. He has been in the Air Force for 14 years. Jen is a stay at home mom to our 5 children ranging in age from 14 to 3. Our home is big, but not quite big enough for a teenage boy. We have decided to build out the garage into a bedroom for Joey. The labor will be done for free by Marty and a couple of volunteers. What we are asking for is assistance to purchase the materials to make this build out happen as soon as possible. Joey is already staying with us, but we would like for him to have a comfortable room that he can call his. Friends, we know money is tight for everyone now. As it is for us also. But we believe in family, helping children and giving Joey what he deserves more than anything. So if you find it in your heart to help, no amount is too small. Thank you for taking the time to read this. God Bless
