Amelia's Headstone Fund

In 2007 - February 3rd - our three year old daughter Amelia was a passenger in my parents car when it was involved in car accident. She sat behind my Dad who was driving, he sadly died at the scene, but Amelia was rushed to a nearby hospital. I was injured, as was my Mum - minor problems in comparison. When Amelia reached hospital, there wasn't anything local doctors could do. My husband, who had been at work at the time, was told she would need to go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
She stayed there for five days and had two operations to remove sections of her skull, because of swelling to her brain. She received blood transfusions, developed complications and after a final brain scan, my husband was told that her brain was 80% dead.
This led to our decision to remove life support, after being informed by the doctors of the life she would lead, and let our daughter go. She was cremated and interred in a local cemetary so that we had somewhere to visit and lay flowers. This is somewhere that our two daughters enjoy visiting, but it is marred by the fact that Amelia doesn't have a headstone.
My husband and I were only 24 when she passed, we didn't have any savings and much of the money we received at the time was spent on funeral costs. We have always been a low income family and try as we might, we save a little and then life gets in the way and our savings deplete. We want nothing more than to get our daughter a headstone so that she can be remembered properly and with pride.
We are hoping that with generosity from those around us, we can raise the money for her headstone. Should we receive any more than our desired total, we will donate the rest of the money to Great Ormond Street Hospital on behalf of those who have funded the project.
