My name is Lee Wiskowski. I am a retired Lieutenant from the fire service here in S.W. Florida. I am asking our family, friends and complete strangers to help my daughter Rebecca and her husband Joshua.
Rebecca and Joshua are expecting their first child, Oliver, in October. During the twenty week anatomy ultrasound it was discovered that Oliver has what is known as Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). It is considered a congenital heart defect that requires open heart surgery within the first five days after he is born.
The surgery will take place at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami. Rebecca will be scheduled to deliver Oliver at South Miami Hospital and he will be immediately transferred to the Children's Hospital a few miles away. The doctors requested Rebecca relocate approximately five weeks before her due date of October 22, but that is just financially impossible for them to do so. Rebecca is planning on relocating to Miami as of October 6 into a hospital sponsored apartment.
Rebecca has two weeks of PTO/sick time to cover the time prior to Oliver's birth. Unfortunately she has not been at her job with the State of Florida long enough to qualify for paid maternity leave. Both Rebecca and Joshua have medical insurance to cover the cost of the birth and the surgery.
We are trying to raise funds to cover the loss of Rebecca's wages for a month as well as living expenses that they will be incurring while staying in Miami prior to Oliver's arrival as well as his recovery after the surgery. These expenses include Rebecca's monthly wage of $1,200; apartment rental of $500; and gas, food and laundry expenses of $1,280.
All donations that exceed our goal will be given to Nicklaus Children's Hospital.
