Not a "Ferry"-tale Ending

Donation protected
We are seeking donations to help cover the cost of funeral expenses and medical bills for our step-father.  This is a heart wrenching, all-to-early end to the life of a great man, husband, father, and friend that was not a "Ferry"-tale ending.    Ronald "JR" Ferry passed away on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 at the age of 51.   While we have been blessed enough to know him and have him in our life the past 8 years, 8 years just wasn't long enough.   We hope that anyone who has or knows someone with diabetes can see how tragic the lack of early treatment can be.

This time last year, JR was with me and my wife, Danielle, at our new home helping us by pulling bushes and trees out of the yard.  He was happy, doing well, and enjoying helping us learn about plumbing, electricity, and just general home remodeling.  Shortly following this time, JR started to not feel well.  In April 2013, JR lost his eye sight.  In May of 2013, I went with my mom, Debbie, to take JR to have a cardiac catheterization, but they were unfortunately not able to perform the procedure due to concerns over his kidneys.  JR's health declined rapidly from there and in the past year in addition to losing his sight, he battled kidney failure, lost his feeling of temperature, and even taste.  JR worked hard for 20+ years doing what he loved most -- operating heavy equipment in the construction industry -- but after getting sick and finding he was legally blind, he was unable to continue working.  JR began dialysis in December of 2013 and while not feeling great, he was feeling better.  In the past two months, his eye sight had returned some, and he'd just bought a car so he could drive to purchase Copenhagen and hamburgers.  JR's death was very unexpected for us.

JR and my mom are the kind of people who would do anything for anyone and they have done so much not just for my wife and I, but for so many others.  I only wish I could return the favor so I've started this fund to help my mom with the medical expenses, outstanding bills, and funeral costs for JR's unexpected death.

For those of you who are able to and would like to contribute, I cannot begin to express my gratitude enough in advance.  If you are unable to donate financially, please say a prayer, or send well wishes for our family during this tough time.   For anyone who wants to donate in another way rather than donating to help with these costs, my mom has requested donations be sent in lieu of flowers or food to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad or the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County SPCA.  More information can be viewed in the obituary by clicking here:  http://obits.dignitymemorial.com/dignity-memorial/obituary.aspx?n=Ronald++%22JR%22-Ferry&lc=7535&pid=170008053&mid=5880806.

With love and gratitude,
