Help baby Adam get the care he needs.

I’m starting this fundraiser for a life long friend of mine and their beautiful family. Some background: Sarah and Shiraz have been married for 7 years and have undergone 5 long gruelling years trying to conceive. The beautiful couple spent thousands and thousands of pounds on IVF year after year. Always left disappointed and heart broken this couple decided they where going to give it one last shot and thank god they did because in that final year theirs and their families prayers where answered, Sarah fell pregnant and gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy named Adam. Feeling overjoyed, relieved and blessed after years of pain didn’t last very long as Adam was diagnosed with type 1 spinal muscular atrophy. Their world came crashing down, after years of trying and being disappointed month after month losing hope each time to finally fall pregnant, be filled with joy, excitement and love for 9 months. Building that bond and attachment to that baby to be told that he has a severe genetic condition and may not live to see their first birthday. They where devastated... SMA is a genetic condition that makes the muscles weaker and causes problems with movement. Type 1 develops in babies less than 6 months old and is the most severe type. Adam is 3 months. He has generalised muscle weakness, a weak cry, and breathing distress. He often has difficulty swallowing and sucking and hasn’t reached any developmental milestones. He has an increased risk of aspiration and failure to thrive. Due to the UK’s restrictions and the stretching of the NHS the parents haven’t been receiving the support they need with their sons condition. Waiting times for appointments are ridiculously long and forever being pushed back due to current events. SMA is a condition that gets worse over time knowing this the parents have decided to stop waiting on the NHS and seek help for Adam through private healthcare however due to spending grands on IVF over the 5 years the parents are struggling to find the means to pay for it. Shiraz became redundant in August, Sarah has been furloughed so please donate as much or as little as you can to help them save their long awaited baby boy. Thank you
