Russ' Australian Adventure

Hello Everyone, Imagine yourself in a glass bottom boat, looking at the Great Barrier Reef, learning about the oceanic life from a certified marine biologist. Then, imagine the boat stopping, being able to suit up, and then snorkeling around the same reef that you just learned about. This is just one of the many activities that I have an opportunity to participate in since becoming accepted into the People to People Ambassador program. Hello, my name is Russ Zahler, and I am a 15 year old freshman at Swansea High School. I am writing to you about a very special opportunity that I have come upon. I have been selected to travel to Australia! This summer, June 12 "“ July 1, a delegation of students, as well as myself, are extremely privileged to participate in a 20 day educational program, where we will be able to see and experience every aspect of an Australian's life. Through this program, I will learn about the history, people, and culture that sets Australia apart from other countries in the world. We will discover, firsthand, about the Australian culture through homestays and school visits. We will also take a backstage tour of the Sydney Opera House, repel down the side of Australia's largest exposed rock face, learn from the oldest culture in the world - the Aboriginals "“ serve the people through an organized community service project, and even try the nation's delicacy, kangaroo pie. We will be led by experienced teachers that will make the adventures we encounter educational, exciting, and challenging. As you would imagine, I am very excited and motivated to learn about a culture that is very different from my own. My parents and I are required to pay my way to be able to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Many different measures will be taken to raise the money "“ such as raking and/or cutting lawns and recycling aluminum cans "“ which includes reaching out to wonderful people such as yourself for donations.
