Cindy Maldonado Family Memorial Fund

Cindy (Lopez) Maldonado passed away on Friday June 5, 2020, succumbing to complications from her chemotherapy. This was unexpected, as her surgery to remove a brain tumor went exceedingly well. While we know she is experiencing indescribable joy in the arms of the Lord right now, she leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend, three beautiful boys, Caleb (18), Logan (11), Payton (9), her mother, Solidad and her brother, Donald.

Cindy was born in Juarez, Mexico on Nov. 3, 1977.  In 1985, when Cindy was only 5 years old, she came to America with her mom, Solidad and lived in Southern California in different places over the years. They moved to Arizona in 1992, living in Flagstaff and then in the Verde Valley. Cindy graduated from Mingus Union High School in 1995, went to NAU for a year and also later served in the National Guard here in AZ.  She became a Naturalized Citizen of these United States in 2002.  Cindy later received her Bachelor’s degree and then her Master’s degree in 2013 from DeVry University and used that knowledge for a career in Human Resource Management.

She was passionate about several things with God and family always first.  She loved football, whether cheering on the Chicago Bears, or even more loudly, her son Caleb when he was on the field for kid’s league, Jr. High and high school. Her love of cooking at home, her boys, her husband was shown in so many different ways. Always wanting to excel at what she was interested in, new ideas, new hobbies and much more.

Cindy leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of everyone she’s touched but especially her family.  She embraced life and approached everything she did with great enthusiasm and energy at full throttle.

Cindy had a passion for serving others.  She served as a volunteer at Vacation Bible School where she not only helped her son, Logan but other children who had special needs.  She so wanted to give parents who have children with special needs an opportunity to worship the Lord in peace, that she became a leader on a special needs ministry committee at Verde Community Church.  With her help, the church created the first children’s ministry in the Verde Valley for children with special needs so parents could worship and know their children were well cared for.  Cindy always looked for opportunities to serve with Leap of Faith Learning.  Whether it was sanding and painting picnic tables or refurbishing playground equipment, Cindy got her entire family out the door on a Saturday morning to help.  Not only did she bring her family but she also brought her assortment of power tools.

Cindy was a fierce advocate for her boys as well as her employees.  She was never shy about standing up for her employees to make sure they were fairly treated.  When it came to her boys, she became the mama bear if she perceived any threats.  Year after year, she fought for Logan to receive the appropriate special education services he needed to reach his full potential.  She was always there for her oldest son Caleb and made sure Payton was enrolled in Verde Christian Academy to get a strong foundation in faith.

Cindy was a loving wife and best friend to Daniel.  No matter what the event, it was such a pleasure to watch Daniel and Cindy joke and laugh with each other.  It was contagious!  They were always together and seemed more like newlyweds rather than two people who were married for 12 years.  Cindy was one of a kind!

For these reasons, friends of the Maldonado family have created this memorial fund to help the family in the coming months to cover unpaid medical bills, healthcare premiums, car payments and the daily living expenses for which they relied heavily on Cindy’s income.

Please join us in giving this family some space to grieve and Daniel an opportunity to step into his role of taking care of all the needs of his family without his beautiful wife, best friend and partner.
