Hope 4 Harley

Harley Fineis is way more than a pet; he is a certified therapy dog, an employee of Edison Elementary school, and well known in the community for his services. Although Harley has done so much for our community he did not have a great start in life and has triumphed over many obstacles. At 5 weeks old this Border Collie/Rottweiler mix was rescued by the SPCA after the owner had cropped his and his littermates' tails with meat scissors which led to an infection a few years later Harley developed pancreatitis almost taking his life again. Just 2 years after that Harley was diagnosed with diabetes and was blind for a year. After undergoing eye surgery Harley regained 100% of his vision. Through all of this Harley has worked a reading dog for kids in grades k-5, received an award for volunteering to read with children at Edison Elementary, provided thearapy for a student battling cancer, and has helped girl scouts earn badges. Recently this fun loving, easy going, happy guy was diagnosed with stage 1 Osteosarcoma, underwent a leg amputation on February 26th and needs chemotherapy. Harley continues to demonstrate a great outlook on life and his vets are optimistic for a full recovery. However, Harley's medical bills are quite expensive & we are looking for any donations to help defray some of his medical expenses so he can recover quickly and get back to work doing what he does best at Edison Elementary. In addition, the student council at Edison Elementary is currently running a bottle and can drive for Harley. Any additional donations and profits from the bottle and can drive above Harley's expenses will be donated to the SPCA of Erie County in Tonawanda. No donations are too small and greatly appreciated! Every little bit brings more hope for Harley!
