Sasha is Fighting for Her Life

Our little Sasha is fighting for her life. When we rescued Sasha, we thought the hardest days of her life were over. We had no idea her real struggle was just beginning.
Sasha came to Lilo's Promise from Miami, where she was rescued from a dog fight ring. The dogs came to be known as "The Miami 22" and needed to leave Miami due to breed specific legislation laws. Sasha's many scars and thin, hairless body told us that she had been through what no dog should ever endure. With the love and care of her foster family, Sasha's shy and timid personality started to fall away and be replaced with her true happy, wiggly and joyful nature.
Sadly, Sasha suddenly began to fall ill. Bloodwork has shown that Sasha is suffering from Mycoplasma, a tick bourne disease wherein bacteria is taking over her red blood cells. Her immune system is killing off her red blood cells, causing life threatening anemia.
On March 1st, Sasha had her first blood transfusion and we prayed for good results. To our dismay, Sasha was unable to keep down the medication necessary to save her life. On March 2nd, we admitted her to VSEC Critical Care in Philadelphia where is receiving more transfusions and IV medications.
We are all optimistic that Sasha is going to win this battle. She has proven herself a true survivor already. We keep telling her she has an amazing life ahead of her and we need her to get through this. She just looks at us with her big brown eyes as if she knows what we are saying and how much we love her.
Besides the emotional toll on all of us, Sasha's illness has caused serious financial strain to our small, nonprofit rescue. Thousands of dollars are needed to save Sasha's life. Your donations are needed and no amount is too small to help. Sasha and Lilo's Promise greatly appreciate your generosity and sharing her story. We cannot continue to save dogs like Sasha without your support.
