Robert Prezel Memorial Fund

In October of 2009 Robert Prezel was being treated for liver disease and during a routine scope was discovered to have esaphageal cancer. He then underwent an 11 hour surgery to remove the cancer. His recovery was not easy with the many complications, a long hospital stay and frequent doctors visits.

Doctors had come to the consensus that he was in need of a new liver. But Robert was ineligible for a new liver until he was 2 years cancer free.

In early 2013 Robert went into renal failure as a result of end stage liver disease. He then had a long stay in the hospital of over 3 months. He was added to the liver transplant list in April 2013. While in the process of waiting for a liver, the family and physicians decided it best to take Robert home to be comfortable. Only 4 days after taking him home they received a call that there was a liver donor and only had a few hours to get to the hospital. On May 23, 2013 Robert received a healthy liver. After months of recovery and rehabilitation he was able to return home.

After a few months of being home Robert's health started to decline unexpectedly. He was in and out of the emergency room with various ailments and constant pain. Loss of weight, weakness and dehydration lead him back to the hospital at KU Medical Center. Robert spent his last hours in the presence of family and friends.

Robert Prezel found peace at 5:42 Am On Sunday March 2, 2014

The family has been in a financial hardship due to the inability to work and the ever growing medical expenses. Even a small monetary gift would be greatly appreciated.
