Never in a million years would we have expected to be in this position. I guess that life just sometimes throws you a curve ball. My uncle, Matthew Lucero, has been diagnosed with an Aortic Dissection and an Abdominal Aneurysm. He is not your typical patient for this type of illness. He is 46 years young and healthy. As a matter of fact he completed a half marathon in November 2018, and on the day he became ill, he had ran 6 miles. The underlying cause may be due to a Connective Tissue Disorder, but we can’t be sure until further tests are completed. My Uncle Matt spent three days in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit and 4 additional days in the cardiac unit, and is now at home. He is physically unable to return to work at this time. So the bottom line is that he needs major surgery. Unfortunately the local vascular surgeon is not able to do the surgery in our hometown of Albuquerque, due to the complicated and risky nature of the operation. We must travel to Houston to see a surgeon who specializes in Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery. Our first appointment is at the beginning of June and we are hoping the surgery can take place soon after that. Needless to say, we are frightened beyond belief, but we are blessed with family and friends who provide an amazing support system and we have strong faith that my uncle Matt will recover. We are short on funds for the week long hospitalization, upcoming surgery and the extensive recovery period. We humbly ask for your help in any amount and are extremely appreciated.
