Four years ago I was thrust onto a journey I never imagined I would be on. My husband of 23 years divorced me "“ after telling every counselor and pastor that we had that he would NEVER divorce because he did not believe in it. He lied. So, now it has been 4 years and I am heading back to court on custody issues, boundary issues, and child endangerment issues. He and his attorney want a trial and to challenge the emotional and mental condition of me and my youngest daughters.
I have worked very hard to move forward in my "˜new' life. I went back to school, earned my B.A.S. degree in Criminal Justice, and I am currently teaching as a substitute in the school district that we live in. I have zero money to fight him and he apparently has unlimited resources (his attorney charges $500/hr). I have pretty much wiped out any savings I might have had to fight with, and my salary and the child support I receive is just barely enough to pay our bills so we can have a place to live (we are court-ordered to live and attend school where we are).
My original attorney is no longer able to represent me. I thought this would be a fairly simple case so I tried to represent myself: then after I got an extension from the judge and my ex's attorney went for "blood". I realized I was going to need to find an attorney. I have interviewed quite a few potential attorney's, and I have found one that I believe will be the one to retain.
EXCEPT "“ I have no money to retain him. I need $25.000. to go to trial. I thought I was just having a hearing, but it is not. It is a trial. I am in over my head and I need help. Asking for help has been the most difficult decision to make - I am usually the one helping others, but now I am the one that needs the help. I know that God will supply all my needs - but sometimes the supplying of those needs is through others.
I just want to protect my daughters and my son; to stop the legal harassment by my ex; and not have to keep going to court because my ex is not satisfied until he destroys me - emotionally and financially.
