This past January, I was fortunate enough to take a course about non-governmental organizations with a truly amazing and inspirational professor. On the first day of his class, he unofficially renamed the course "How To Change The World (300)." Throughout the four weeks of instruction, my classmates and I studied how nonprofits can achieve sustained and significant impact. We were exposed to the infinite power human beings possess to create social change. I will always remember the distinct way in which our professor stressed to us over and over,"anything is possible."
It was with this phrase in mind that I decided to apply for an incredible internship and educational opportunity in Washington, D.C. for the summer. Two weeks after scrambling to submit my application, transcripts, and supplemental materials, I was notified of my acceptance to 'The Fund for American Studies' (TFAS) Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service. The institute comprises of an internship with a nonprofit agency and two complimentary courses at George Mason University. Living, working, and studying in D.C. will equip me with the knowledge and skills to work in the nonprofit sector and eventually start my own organization. I want to help as many people as possible, no matter what it takes!
While TFAS offers generous scholarships and one of the lowest tuition rates among its competing programs, I still need to get creative to finance this experience. My university financial aid only covers Fall and Spring semesters, so any additional expenses I have to pay out of pocket. I believe in the power of communal effort to make big things happen, therefore any donation will be significant. This is incredibly important to me and for my future, so all help is appreciated. Thank you!
