Team Nick!

Nick Johnson is a Cal Fire Captain with 24 years on the job and the father of 2 boys. He was diagnosed with stage 4 Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia on May 18, 2018 after going to see his doctor about pain in his side. While the risks associated with cancer and being in the fire service are known, no firefighter expects to be dealing with this kind of life change at 47, while in the middle of raising a family.

CLL is not a curable cancer, but one that can be put into long term remission with treatment.

Why Go Fund Me?
After considering a number of options, Nick has opted for the most aggressive treatment available in an effort to attain the best possible outcome. This will mean significant financial strain as his income will not be fully covered during the time that he will need off, both to focus on the intensive chemotherapy treatment and recovering from a related surgery. 

The purpose of this page is to fund that income gap. If we can reach our goal it will allow Nick the opportunity to focus fully on his recovery and getting his body into long term remission without the practical concerns that come along with raising a family on what will be a drastically reduced income. 

How to Help
Since his diagnosis so many of you have offered to help in any way possible. Nick is not the type to ask for help.  As a first responder, his focus is on those that need his help. His only goal through this entire ordeal has been to spread awareness, to those in the fire service and those outside, to get your blood and your body checked and to not put off making a doctors appointment if you feel something isn’t quite right. 

That being said, as much as he’d never ask, he and his family need our support. Contributing here is one huge way you can stand with him and help to meet the very real and immediate needs his family is facing during this time.
